Legislation

One of the roles of FPAWS is advocating for new or updated legislation to improve the foster care system and support for foster families.

Partners for Our Children maintains a bill tracker that follows current legislation they have an interest in, which is often relevant to foster care: https://partnersforourchildren.org/policy/bill-tracker

On this page is an incomplete reference to existing legislation affecting foster care and adoption in Washington.

Federal

A more complete list of relevant federal legislation is available on childwelfare.gov.

WA

DCYF maintains a reference list of relevant laws, policies and guidelines around foster care.

The Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction keeps a list of relevant federal and state laws around education for foster children on their website, covering enrollment eligibility, requirements for schools to provide foster care liaisons, and for foster children to have educational liaisons appointed.
