FPAWS is hosting a regional conference for foster parents, parents, relative providers, adoptive parents and case management teams for children in foster care. This conference will give you an opportunity to have your voice be heard by DCYF oversight board committee members, learn practical skills and knowledge relating the caring of children with trauma. Caregivers will earn a continuing education certificate that can be applied to licensing requirements.

Session 1  9:00 AM

DCYF Oversight Committee Listening Session

This will be an opportunity to visit with legislators on the Dept. of Children, Youth and Families oversight board. They would like to know what they would like to see change and what really works. Come with your solutions for foster care.

Session 2  11:00 AM

Role of the Office of Family and Children’s Ombuds

Learn about the role OFCO and how they work to protect children, youth and families from harmful agency action or conduct, and to make agency officials and state policy makers aware of system-wide issues and recommendations in the child protection and child welfare system to strengthen families and improve outcomes for children and youth.

Session 3   1:10 PM

Trouble Take it On

Trouble finds us all. If we see Trouble as the problem and the skills to face it, we can, “Take it On”. This class invites you to use these skills to teach your kids a narrative of self efficacy. They are capable, loveable, and worthwhile.

Session 4  3:10 PM

RISE Relational Mentoring

Rise Philosophy of Care presents a multitude of practical action steps to work with traumatized children. The Rise approach uses activities from TBRI, PCIT and many other Evidence Based Practices creating an approach that gives caregivers tools that can be used in the moment to help calm the triggered child’s and create connection.
