About 25% of children who come into foster care in WA will end up being adopted. These children will still have the same traumatized background after adoption, and will often continue to need mental health care and other kinds of support after being adopted.

Children who were in foster care in WA at any point after their 13th birthday are classified as Independent according to the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid).
Children who were in foster care at any point after their 16th birthday are also eligible for state funding and support such as the Chafee Education and Training Voucher program.
