The iFoster Transition Age Youth (TAY) AmeriCorps

In 2019, iFoster launched their TAY AmeriCorps Program in California which utilizes a peer-to-peer model that hires and trains current and former foster youth to connect their peers to the academic, employment, basic needs, and health/wellness resources they need to be successful. The program won Best New AmeriCorps Program nationally in 2019. TAY AmeriCorps Peer Mentors work with local agencies to support transition-age foster youth and have successfully served over 40,000 foster youth to-date.

In 2021, the program expanded to Washington State, providing 30 peer navigators in 5 counties for 2023. Peer navigator positions last for ten months and provide a minimal stipend, with training and support provided so that the position can launch youth on professional career paths after their commitment ends.

Two former navigators talk about their experiences at https://demoifoster.azurewebsites.net/blogs/tay-americorps-week-why-i-serve/

Starting in December 2023 you can email [email protected] to inquire about applications for the March 2024 AmeriCorps term.
