FPAWS is a state affiliate of the National Foster Parent Association. The Friends of FPAWS monthly support model is modelled on their own supporter levels, and they also offer annual membership to foster parents at $35/year.
The NFPA supports the annual Walk Me Home event run by local associations across the state to raise funds for foster care, including our own Walk Me Home event coming up on August 14th, to be held in Tacoma and joined by supporters anywhere in a virtual option!
Besides their upcoming annual conferences, the NFPA has a wide collection of online on-demand training sessions available on their website, free to members and available to watch at any time:
- ADHD v Trauma in foster children // 0.5 hours
- Ensuring Safety & Equity for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questioning/Queer Intersex Ally (LGBTQIA+) Youth // 1.5 Hours
- Parents as Changemakers: Effective Policy Advocacy // 1.5 hours
- and many others, including several webinars by Dr John DeGarmo
For more lightweight material, enjoy Executive Director Irene Clements live on Facebook each week in Coffee+Caregivers, or watch the previous sessions on YouTube! And don’t forget to sign up for the The Informer, their monthly newsletter with updates on classes and action by the NFPA and current news in foster care around the country and the world.
