Webinar: Understanding Indian Child Welfare History and Current Impacts

Webinar: Understanding Indian Child Welfare History and Current Impacts

This workshop will explain a basic understanding of tribal sovereignty, and historic policies that lead to the creation of ICWA. It will also explain how the eras of boarding schools, the Sixties Scoop era created the disproportionate rate of Native Americans in the foster care system. It will also explain some of the safeguards and limitations of ICWA. This would be an important training for providers who want to better understand how to serve Native Americans in a more culturally appropriate way.
